Internships

Accounting

An accounting internship can be taken for three hours of academic credit and is considered an accounting/business elective. To meet the Texas State Board of Public Accountancy requirements for the CPA exam the student must meet the following criteria:

  • Completion of 4 upper division courses in accounting
  • Accounting GPA of 3.0 or better
  • Overall GPA of 3.0 or better
  • Not in the final semester before graduation

Computer Information Systems

An information systems internship can be taken for three hours of academic credit and is considered an information systems/business elective. The Department requires that all students meet the following criteria:

  • Completion of 4 upper division courses in information systems
  • Information Systems GPA of 3.0 or better
  • Overall GPA of 3.0 or better

Report Instructions For Students

To complete your internship and receive a grade you are required to:

  1. Submit a paper at as described below to the Department Chair at the end of the semester.
  2. Request your internship supervisor to complete and return the Employer Intership Evaluation Form to:

The paper is to be prepared in a professional format and style, and address the following points:

  1. Name of company sponsoring the internship and name of individual supervising the internship.
  2. Detailed description of the duties performed and responsibilities given.
  3. A discussion of how your accounting education at UTEP helped prepare you for the duties and responsibilities you were given.
  4. A discussion of what you believe to be specific strengths and weaknesses in your education at UTEP relative to the knowledge you should have had to perform your assigned work.
  5. Any recommendations you may have for improving the accounting curriculum and/or the internship program.
