The University of Texas at El Paso’s College of Business Administration promoted Laura M. Uribarri to Assistant Dean for MBA Programs. Uribarri, the program’s director since 2006, oversees the UTEP MBA program, which is made up of an Executive MBA, Accelerated MBA. and Full-time MBA.

Under Uribarri’s direction, the program’s student enrollment grew by more than 60 percent and the number of degrees awarded per year has doubled. In response to this growth, CoBA moved the program in 2008 to the UTEP Graduate Business Center in downtown El Paso.

UTEP’s MBA program received its first national ranking in Hispanic Business Magazine in 2008 and achieved the No. 1 ranking in 2010 and 2011. The program also was selected from among 195 competitors as one of 16 national finalists for the 2011 Examples of Excelencia in Education at the U.S. Capitol last month. The program now serves more than 400 M.B.A. students from more than 20 countries.

Robert Nachtmann, D.B.A., dean of the College of Business Administration, said Uribarri’s promotion is a testament to her commitment and the college’s confidence in her continuing success.

"Her dedication to our strategic vision for our M.B.A. program development and service to our M.B.A. students is unparalleled,” he said.

Uribarri said the program’s success is due to the dynamic leadership and determination of everyone involved in the program to include faculty, staff, students, alumni and University and college leadership.

“We have tremendous momentum and will continue on an upward trajectory in the months and years to come,” she said.

Uribarri earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Stanford University and a Master of Public Affairs degree from UT Austin.
