Accounting Department

Dr. Sid Glandon Dr. Sid Glandon,
Interim Department Chair

Welcome to the Department of Accounting homepage. We are committed to providing quality education, intellectual contributions and service to El Paso and the West Texas region. Holding separate AACSB International accreditation, the department offers a BBA in Accounting and a Master of Accountancy with a Financial/Auditing or Tax concentration. Please contact us if you have any questions concerning our programs, faculty or the University.

The Department of Accounting commits itself to the two ideals of access and excellence. In a region that has been geographically isolated and characterized by limited economic and educational opportunity, we aspire to act as an educational leader and model in Texas higher accounting education through the use of continuous improvement processes that ensure its graduates obtain the best possible accounting education and are competitive in the global marketplace.

October 2011
In October 2011, Giorgio Gotti and Stephen Salter attended the Contemporary Accounting Research Conference in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. The Conference is sponsored by the Contemporary Accounting Research Journal, one of the top four accounting research journals. The conference is by invitation only and selects less than 3% of the eligible professors to share in a symposium of its newest academic papers in accounting. This is the third year UTEP faculty have attended. For the first time, one of our accounting doctoral students, Elizabeth Devos, was invited to participate in the doctoral consortium that precedes the conference. Elizabeth subsequently joined Drs. Gotti and Salter at the main conference. The picture shows Dr. Steve Salterio, the Editor of  the Contemporary Accounting Research Journal between Drs. Salter and Gotti. Throughout the conference Dr. Salterio wore the very comfortable and distinctive black hat presented to him on his visit to UTEP in 2010.
