Finance Group rated Top 101 among Finance Departments worldwide (Source: based on publication over the past 6 years in the 5 leading journals)

Oscar Varela was a panel member at the UTEP College of Business and Greater El Paso Chamber of Commerce “State of the El Paso Economy” forum.

A new undergraduate Finance elective is being offered in Fall 2009: Real Estate (FIN 3321). Whether you’re interested in selling real estate, mortgage brokerage, or just hope to own a home of your own after you graduate, this is a must take class.

October 2008

Erik Devos presented three papers at the annual Financial Management Association meetings in Grapevine, Texas:

     “Are Interlocking Directors Effective Monitors?”
     “Are Analysts’ Recommendations for Other Investment Banks Biased?”
     “Analyst Behavior Around REIT Equity Offerings”

William Elliott presented his paper titled “Target Debt Ratios: The Impact of Equity Mis-pricing.” at the annual Financial Management Association meetings in Grapevine, Texas.

September 2008

William Elliott presented his paper titled, “Target debt ratios, adverse selection costs, and equity mis-pricing,” at the First Desert Finance Conference, UTEP.

Oscar Varela presented his paper titled “The Role of Venture Capitalists in International Portfolio Companies,” at the First Desert Finance Conference, UTEP.

August 2008

Eddie Wei granted tenure and promoted to Associate Professor of Finance.
