UTEP Business Students Win Marketing Challenge

December 5, 2008

For the second year in a row, a team of UTEP Business students was named the winner of the Battle of I-10 Marketing Challenge. The Marketing Challenge, sponsored by FirstLight Federal Credit Union, pits rival schools UTEP and NMSU against each other in a contest to prepare marketing plans to promote financial literacy to college students. The students gain real-world experience by working with FirstLight to develop their proposals. The competition culminated in the teams presenting their marketing and advertising campaign proposals before a panel of local business people with advertising and marketing experience. UTEP presented the winning campaign, with NMSU being named the runner-up.

The winning UTEP team was awarded a $10,000 donation to the College of Business Adminstration. In addition, each student on the team received a $400 gift card to Best Buy to help them start off their career or for their educational needs. The winning UTEP team was represented by students Jaime Carrasco, Jonathan Escalante, Diana Hermosillo, Cynthia Herrera, Alonso Morales and Christopher Roman, and was led by Dr. Norma Mendoza, Ph.D.
