UTEP’s MBA Programs Named #1 in the Nation for Hispanics

September 3, 2010

COBA sealThe College of Business Administration at The University of Texas at El Paso has reached a landmark goal in 2010. In the September edition of Hispanic Business magazine, UTEP is named the top graduate business school for Hispanics in the nation, coming in ahead of New York University, the University of Texas at Austin, the University of Miami and the University of Texas at San Antonio.

The ranking was based on the percent of Hispanic enrollment, percent of Hispanic faculty and progressive programs aimed at increasing enrollment of Hispanic students at each university.

“All of us at UTEP are very proud of this extraordinary accomplishment which recognizes the hard work of the faculty, staff and students in the College of Business Administration and the fine leadership of Dean Robert Nachtmann,” said University President Diana Natalicio. “It represents another giant step in the right direction as we continue to progress toward becoming the first national research university with a 21st century student demographic.”

In 2009-10, UTEP enrolled 443 Master of Business Administration (MBA) students, 390 of whom were Hispanic. In addition, 78 of the 107 students who earned MBA degrees in 2009 were Hispanic.

“The College of Business Administration is a union of faculty, staff, alumni and corporate partners with one singular mission,” said College of Business Administration Dean Robert Nachtmann, D.B.A. “That mission is to provide our students with access to building the education foundation to their future professional life. This national recognition of excellence in MBA education is a testament to the systematic hard work of our college and campus community.”

In 2009, CoBA was ranked No. 2 with 434 MBA students enrolled, 358 of them Hispanic. The University awarded 64 MBA degrees to Hispanic students in 2008.

CoBA will have an information session on the MBA programs at noon Wednesday, Sept. 15, in the Graduate Business Center at Mesa and Main streets. Please RSVP by calling 915-747-7727 or going to mba.utep.edu.
