Biography
Dr. Joseph P. O’Connor Jr. graduated in August, 2005 with a Ph.D. in Management Science from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee (UWM), where he majored in Organizations and Strategy and minored in Marketing. While at UWM, he taught courses in organizational behavior and strategic management. During his sevenyears at UTEP, Dr. O'Connor has taught strategic management at the undergraduate, MBA and doctoral levels, as well as undergraduate courses in organizational behavior and organization development. Prior to entering his doctoral program, Dr. O’Connor completed eight years active duty in the US Army and 25 years in human resources management, with his last position at Actuant Corporation, a NYSE-listed firm, as Vice President & Global Human Resources Leader. During his business career, he served with such companies as Pfizer, RepublicBank, Monsanto, Mallinckrodt and General Signal. Outside of teaching, Dr. O'Connor enjoys hiking and reading military history. He is married to Mary and has two children, Mike, who is 31 and works for a software firm in the Chicago area, and Katie, 26, who is is pursuing a graduate degree in art therapy in Seattle.
